It’s official- as of june 1st the u.s. virgin islands are open to tourists!

Following months of lock-downs, curfews and closed borders, our American partner islands are finally re-opened to tourists! There are new rules in place for hotels, resorts, restaurants, bars, taxis, a “No Mask, No Service,” mandate is required by the government, and visitors will be screened upon arrival using thermal imaging, but all the beaches are open! Many hotels in the U.S. Virgin Islands are now re-opened, with a few exceptions including Bolongo Bay opening July 1st, Margaritaville Vacation Club opening July 2nd, and the Ritz-Carlton opening on July 15th.

(Not that this matters, we know you’ll all be on yachts!)

The U.S. Virgin Islands are some of only a few Caribbean islands that are currently open to international visitors that have no guaranteed quarantine procedures in place, with many other islands and territories planning re-openings for July. As of June 6th, the BVI is yet to announce a projected re-opening date for either work-permit holders or tourists- this doesn’t have to impact you if you’re looking at buying a yacht, we have many yachts for sale in the U.S. Virgin Islands! You can see the full details of the reopening of the U.S. Virgin Islands borders here.

In the spirit of re-openings, here are some other Caribbean islands that have started re-opening to tourists in June:

Antigua and Barbuda

From June 4th, borders have officially re-opened to tourists, and flights have re-commenced, with hospitality accommodations allowed to open provided the satisfy the stipulations of the health authority. All tourists must be able to provide a negative Covid-19 test dated with 48 hours of arrival, or must agree to either pay for a local test, or quarantine for 14 days.

The Bahamas

While re-opening for tourists is officially scheduled for July 1st, from June 15th private boaters, yachters and planes are allowed entry into the territory, with all visitors being subjected to advanced screening measures including temperature testing. Public parks and beaches are allowed open on all islands except for Bimini, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Harbour Island, New Providence and Paradise Island and San Salvador, effective 2 June.

St. Lucia

The borders to St Lucia officially reopened to tourists on the 4th of June, and must be able to provide a negative Covid-19 test dated with 48 hours of arrival to the island. While activities available will be limited, a number of tours are being promoted, such as water-based coastline tours where social distancing can easily be practiced.
