Austen’s passion for sailing began at just six years old after his father introduced him to the sport. From that point on, sailing became a defining part of his life. He spent much of his youth racing competitively, participating in national and international regattas while earning numerous victories along the way. At the same time, his family regularly vacationed in the British Virgin Islands, where they bareboat chartered both monohulls and catamarans. Those early experiences cruising the islands sparked a lifelong connection to the Caribbean and the boating lifestyle.
After several years working in manufacturing, Austen was ready for a new challenge. Around his 30th birthday, he and his wife purchased a Leopard 48 and launched an owner-operated charter business in the Virgin Islands. Over the next four and a half years, they completed nearly 100 term charters, cruised close to 50,000 nautical miles, and built a successful business while living aboard full time. The experience gave Austen invaluable firsthand knowledge of yacht ownership, charter operations, and life on the water.
Today, Austen brings that practical experience to BVI Yacht Sales. Having been a buyer, owner, charter operator, and yacht broker, he understands the buying and selling process from every perspective. Whether clients are searching for the right yacht, planning to enter the charter industry, or preparing to sell, he is committed to helping them make informed decisions with confidence. When he’s not working with clients, Austen can usually be found on the water teaching new boat owners, captaining charters, or helping friends with boat projects. He and his wife are now based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where they are preparing to welcome their first daughter while continuing their next chapter in the boating world.
