S/V VANISHING POINT

Hylas 57  · Next-Generation Systems Yacht

Vanishing Point was delivered approximately 18 months after Hull #2 arrived in the U.S., creating a rare opportunity: this yacht was completed after major design and systems advancements were identified, allowing her to leapfrog earlier boats in the series.

As a result, Vanishing Point has a full suite of next-generation systems, many of which later informed updates across the model line—but none executed to this level or scale.

Award-Winning Flagship

Vanishing Point is industry recognized at the highest level:

  • Cruising World Magazine – Boat of the Year (2022)
  • Sailing World Magazine – Best Systems Design (2022)
  • Newport International Boat Show (2022)
  • Best Sailboat Over 40 Feet
  • Best Sailboat Overall
  • Taiwan Yacht of the Year (2021)
  • Taiwan Feature Yacht of the Year (2023)

These awards underscore what sets Vanishing Point apart: a rare combination of performance, innovation, execution, and real-world usability.

A True Systems Prototype — Not a Standard Production Boat

Advanced Power & Energy Independence

  • 900 amp-hours at 24 volts — the largest lithium bank in the Hylas 57 fleet
  • 2kW solar array integrated into the hardtop and retractable soft top
  • Designed for true off-grid cruising and silent operation
  • Capable of running the yacht’s air conditioning for 12+ hours on battery alone

This system architecture fundamentally changes how the yacht is used—dramatically reducing generator runtime while increasing comfort, autonomy, and reliability.

Ultra-Efficient, Whisper-Quiet Climate Control

The air-conditioning system aboard Vanishing Point is a three-zone, marine inverter, variable-speed compressor system—exceptionally efficient and notably quiet.

Can operate overnight on battery power

Variable speed technology reduces cycling and noise

Optimized for both tropical cruising and energy conservation

ElectroSea ClearLine Protection

Unique to Vanishing Point is the ElectroSea ClearLine system connected to the air-conditioning raw water intake. This system generates chlorine from seawater, continuously cleaning the condenser and preventing biological fouling—dramatically improving reliability and reducing maintenance in warm-water cruising grounds.

Hot Water & Mechanical Improvements

  • 18-gallon Explorer Series water heater
  • Dual electric elements (120V and 24V)
  • Dual heat-exchanger loops allow hot water production while running the engine or generator
  • Far more efficient and flexible than standard installations

Significant mechanical layout improvements were made based on lessons learned from earlier hulls:

  • Water heater relocated from under the aft berth to the engine room
  • Engine room redesigned for improved access and serviceability
  • Airdry bilge system relocated from the galley area to the engine room, greatly reducing onboard noise

Electronics — Continuously Updated

The latest Raymarine continues to provide upgrades, ensuring the yacht remains at the forefront of navigation technology.

  • Four Raymarine Axiom 2 XL 16” displays
  • Latest Raymarine software and hardware
  • Electronics upgraded within the last three months

Signature Cockpit Enclosure & Weather Protection

Vanishing Point features a one-of-a-kind, owner-designed cockpit enclosure that blends seamlessly into the yacht’s architecture while delivering exceptional protection and ventilation.

  • Elegant polycarbonate retractable dodger mounted on a custom stainless-steel track with bolt rope
  • Center polycarbonate panel slides open for massive airflow
  • Stainless track doubles as a robust cockpit handhold
  • Enclosure meticulously follows the lines of designer Bill Dixon, to the point that it nearly disappears into the yacht’s profile

Aft, the yacht is equipped with a bespoke soft top supported by a carbon-fiber frame that retracts and extends from the aft edge of the hardtop.

  • Provides full 360-degree cockpit protection underway or in inclement weather
  • Entire soft top can be fully retracted and stowed in under five minutes
  • Allows the cockpit to instantly transform for open-air sailing, entertaining, or stargazing on clear nights

This system offers a rare blend of elegance, engineering, and usability—unmatched in the fleet.

Owners Comments and Boat History

Vanishing Point was conceived not as a dockside showpiece, but as a true modern bluewater yacht—designed to be sailed hard, sailed often, and sailed well. From the very beginning, she was commissioned with a clear purpose: to blend long-range offshore capability with contemporary performance and self-sufficiency. Every major decision in her design and outfitting was informed by real-world sailing, not brochure promises. She represents the idea that comfort and capability are not opposites, but partners.

Since launch, Vanishing Point has been actively sailed across demanding coastal and offshore passages, logging miles in open ocean, variable weather, and real cruising conditions. She has proven herself in extended passages, night sailing, and multi-day runs where systems reliability, balance, and ease of handling matter far more than dockside aesthetics. Whether short-handed or with crew, she has consistently demonstrated predictable motion, strong directional stability, and the kind of confidence that only comes from thoughtful naval architecture paired with practical experience at sea.

Rather than living a static life tied to a marina, Vanishing Point has been used exactly as she was intended: exploring, covering distance, and adapting to changing conditions. Her systems have been refined underway, her sail handling optimized through use, and her onboard layout validated by time offshore. She is a yacht shaped by miles, not theory—one that reflects the philosophy that the best boats are not preserved, but exercised.
