BVI Yacht Sales Overview

1984 Young Sun 43 Pilothouse
‘Osprey’

The Young Sun 43 is a spacious, comfortable liveaboard home with 6’3 headroom. ‘Osprey’ is a proven blue water cruising boat with two circumnavigations under her belt so far and traditional looks that turn heads anywhere she goes. She was designed by Ron Amy and built in the Formosa shipyard with a quality thick fiberglass hull that you won’t find in today’s production boats. She boasts beautifully crafted teak woodwork on the interior giving the look and warmth of a real wooden boat but retains the strength and piece of mind of a solid fiberglass lamination. You may have heard of the Spindrift 43 as the ‘Young Sun’ model was renamed when they brought it to the American market. The pilot house design provides the option of inside and outside hydraulic steering so no matter what the weather conditions you are comfortable.
Her full keel with a ‘double ended’ transom and high bow gives her a seakindly movement and wonderful comfort and security at sea. The cutter rig makes all the sails manageable and gives you sail plan options for all conditions. Her spacious two cabin layout works for a family or a couple. Step aboard Osprey and I think anyone would agree she truly is one of a kind and a must see for anyone with dreams of sailing the Caribbean and beyond!
Newly rebuilt 65 hp Cummins engine (2018) on new motor mounts that runs great with only 90 hours with Triton Dripless Shaft Seal and New Exhaust manifold
Other recent upgrades include; (3) 100 watt solar panels w/ 30 amp Blue Sky charge controller, Garmin chart plotter, Raymarine radar, NEW Upholstery inside and out, 12V fridge/freezer, Electric Head & plumbing, New Exhaust, New oversize rigging (10mm) and custom woodwork completed by a professional shipright that would impress the best of the best!
Don’t miss out on this chance to own a piece of sailing history!

This full keel, blue-water cruiser has a very comfortable 2 cabin layout. The interior features varnished teak joinery and teak and holly cabin soles. The aft cabin has a large double berth offset to port and a single berth to starboard.

Forward of the aft cabin to starboard you will find the curved companion way staircase leading to the salon with a U-shaped settee to port (New Upholstery 2018) and the and pilothouse to starboard. The settee in the salon also makes a double berth. The floor lifts up to reveal the engine compartment with ample access for engine maintenance. The 65HP Cummins Diesel engine has been recently fully rebuilt and has only 90 hrs on it!

Go forward and down two steps from the pilothouse and view the 3′ x 4′ Nav. desk with storage under and over on the starboard side. On the port side is the L-shaped galley with large double-sectioned refrigerator, 3-burner + oven/propane stove, deep double stainless sinks, and copious storage for food, table and cook-ware and a second 12V fridge recently installed.

Moving forward, across from the second fridge, is the head with shower stall is to starboard. The forward stateroom has another double berth, writing desk, hanging locker, shelves and smaller storage lockers. The warm interior teak ceilings have hard rubbed satin oil finish. Cabin soles are teak and holly with ample storage throughout the vessel.

The interior is well-lit with two 24″ Lewmar deck hatches, deck prism, 10 portholes, and large pilothouse windows (forward ones open for ventilation). Osprey is quite a nice home and with her rich teak joinery and teak and holly sole with bronze ports and fixtures. For all of you who love the traditional look and feel, you will be very impressed with the sumptuous and spacious interior. The woodwork is beautiful, the excellent teak joinery is set off with bronze ports and nice lighting. Because she was a home she also has a nice TV with DVD player and stereo.

If you are looking for a comfortable live aboard and one that is capable of taking you to the next island or the next ocean, you just might have found her. Definitely give Osprey your consideration. You really have to see it in person to believe it. She is currently in St. Thomas, USVI awaiting her next adventure…
