This 1982 Freedom 44 ‘LULU’ is a ‘Cat Ketch’ rig. Very unique with two free standing carbon fiber spars, so no expensive standing rigging to care for and replace every 10 or so years. Sails are in excellent condition, batteries were changed recently and she has a Perkins 4-108.
One awesome feature if this Freedom rig is its simplicity of handling. To tack all you do is turn the wheel! – to run (downwind) with all sails drawing, just ease the sheets. There are no flapping genoas, no big winches to grind. The Freedom 44 is perfect for single or short handed sailing around the bay or across the ocean, with speed, comfort and safety.
This particular vessel ‘LULU ‘ previously ‘Jack Dusty IV’ is well known throughout the Caribbean, was owned for many years by her original owners who successfully raced in almost every regatta in the Caribbean during their long ownership and enjoyed living aboard and cruising her in the Caribbean every winter since the early 80’s until a few years ago. Her interior is very spacious, well ventilated, extremely pleasing to the eye, yet packed full of good, usable storage areas, thus lending herself to comfortable live-aboard cruising. Her exterior offers a cambered deck that is extremely easy to move about on and uncluttered, due to her lack of standing rigging, and a very large cockpit with comfortable seating.
